Week 7 - Snow way!

March 23rd 2013 | Chris Le Sueur

Last week ended with a practical day of stop and search and a drill session in the snow. We are all getting to grips with the process of searching and these sessions are really valuable to gain confidence and develop out techniques.
Drill in the snow was … interesting, some of us seem to be struggling to walk in a straight line and the added factor of piles of snow was not helpful!
This week saw the beginning of Traffic Law and after a very practical week beforehand and everyone’s success in the recent exam we were firmly bought back into reality! The term ‘rabbit caught in traffic headlights’ seems very appropriate at this point.
On Tuesday evening we returned to Le Quennevais Sports centre to have our first Life Saving lesson in the pool. Not being the strongest of swimmers I felt that I had seen far too much of that pool following the swimarathon. But it is a valuable skill to have and is a good bonding exercise for all of us to work together in that sort of environment.
Wednesday brought about my first of hopefully many inter insular football matches against Guernsey Police. A fellow recruit and I were lucky enough to be selected for the squad to travel over to Guernsey for the game, returning in the evening - with the trophy I might add.
It was a great day and brought the opportunity to get to know some more experienced colleagues in the force.
After the highs of Wednesday, the 6am alarm on Thursday was a tough one! We covered Road Traffic Collisions, looking at the theory and procedures around them in preparation to a day of RTC role-plays on Friday.
