Town Policing Unit

December 18th 2014 | PC Carly Bolton

The Town Police Unit has been established for the past 3 years and primarily aims to provide high profile policing to both the residential and business communities of St Helier.

The unit is very much about community lead policing focussing on engaging with all members of the community at every level.

Officers work two shifts to provide coverage Monday to Saturday from 0800 to 1800 hours. During their day officers will assist the shift response within the town area which may include shoplifters, concern for welfare calls, malicious damage and domestics. Officers will also provide precinct coverage between the hours of 8-10, 12-2 and 4-6 as resources allow. They will also be given specific tasking based on intelligence or areas of interest within the town area.

Officers are very approachable and are often a point of contact for many within the town centre as they are a familiar face. They are often approached by tourists  looking for information or directions and can often be found chatting with the public on the corner of Hettich!

Town Policing 3

During the festive time of year, the town centre foot fall obviously increases with people busy shopping. With that in mind we would like to remind retailers to be vigilant regarding shoplifters and to make it as difficult as possible in order to prevent thefts taking place. Also shoppers need to be on guard with regards to keeping their  bags with them at all times and be mindful of leaving gifts in parked cars whilst they continue shopping.

The Town Police Unit would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
