Grave and Criminal Assault Conviction

Today (Thursday 21 March 2024), the Royal Court found 51-year-old John Sebastian Nicolle guilty of grave and criminal assault. He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.

Nicolle committed the offence over several hours on the 25 June 2023, subjecting his victim to both physical and verbal abuse. As well as shouting and spitting at his victim, Nicolle punched, slapped and kicked her whilst she lay on the floor. He later grabbed her by the throat and squeezed her neck for almost a minute.

The victim disclosed the assault when police attended the address on the 27 June following reports of a disturbance that day.  Nicolle was arrested that day and charged with the offence the following day and remanded in custody until his trial.
