Domestic Grave & Criminal Assault Sentencing

49 year old Luis Abreu Dos Santos has been sentenced today [27 July 2022], to six and a half years in prison and given a restraining order, following a conviction for grave and criminal assault on his ex-partner.

Dos Santos was arrested on 17 October after police were alerted, by the ambulance service, to a stabbing at a residential property in St Helier.

Dos Santos had attacked his ex-partner with a cleaver causing her serious injury. Firearms officers attended and located Dos Santos with blood all over his hands, before he was taken into police custody. The victim had sustained significant injuries to her head, arms and necks that required surgery. She has been supported by an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) throughout this investigation.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable James Fowler said: “Dos Santos’ actions put his victim in grave danger. We would like to thank his victim for the courage, strength and bravery that she has shown throughout the whole process.”
