Youth Detention for Teen

Yesterday [Thursday 6 January 2022] a 15 year old was sentenced to nine months youth detention following a spate of serious offences that were carried out during 2021.

The Royal Court imposed the sentence on the teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, for a range of offences that included grave and criminal assault, malicious damage, possession of an offensive weapon, anti- social behaviour
and affray. The majority of these offences took place in and around the Town Centre.

The teen had come to police attention on numerous occasions and regularly breached court orders and bail restrictions. He had also ignored opportunities offered by the Youth Court. He was assessed as being highly likely to commit further violent offences and the court issued the custodial sentence in an attempt to help this individual to “put his life back on track”.
