Arrest following attempted armed robbery

Police have today [21 July 2021] arrested a man following an attempted robbery at a jewellery store in St Helier.

Officers were called shortly after 09:00hrs this morning to reports of a man having entered the store, he then allegedly threatened a member of staff with a broken bottle while he demanded items on display, before fleeing.

Enquiries led officers to make an arrest shortly after, and a 20-year-old man was safely detained by firearms officers; he remains in police custody at this time.

No items were taken during the incident and the member of staff was physically unharmed.
