Today [Friday 4 December 2020], 34 year old Daniel Heaney was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 7 years after he was found guilty of five counts of the Possession and Making of Indecent Images of Children.
Heaney originally pleaded not guilty to the charges but was found guilty by the Royal Court in October of this year.
He was arrested in June 2019 after the states of Jersey Police received information linking Heaney to a broader investigation into child abuse images being conducted by a UK police force. Digital devices owned by Heaney were seized and examined and indecent images of children were discovered.
The expertise and evidence presented at trial earlier this year by the States of Jersey Police High Tech Crime Unit played a key role in securing this conviction.
