Man Sentenced for Christmas Eve Stabbing

Today [4 August 2020], 27 year old Scott McCaffrey was sentenced to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of Grave and Criminal Assault, one count of Possession of an Offensive Weapon and one count of Possession of Cannabis.

McCaffrey was involved in an altercation with another man and woman on Vauxhall Street at approx. 22:30 on Christmas Eve. He stabbed the man several times and caught the woman with the knife as she tried to intervene. Both received medical care, but the male victim was hospitalised for several days.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind the public that knife crime is still very rare in Jersey and that ongoing partnership work will aim to continue to reduce this still further.

Detective Inspector Christina Maclennan, head of the Serious Crime Unit, said “We hope this sentencing sends a strong message that the carrying of a knife in public or the criminal use of a knife remains completely unacceptable and that those who do so will be arrested and dealt with by the full force of the Law.”
