Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following an attempted robbery on Friday evening.
The incident happened at around 5.50pm on Friday evening at Samares Stores, La Grande Route de St Clement, where a man attempted to get cash from the register by threatening the shop worker with a knife.
CCTV released shows the man arriving at the store, he then hangs around for around 6 minutes, speaking to the shop worker, waiting until she moves away from the counter when he scopes out the cash register before finally her returning when he takes a knife from his pocket and demands cash. She refuses, telling him she has called police and that they are on the way, she even points out the window when they hear a noise outside telling him it’s the police. She then hits him with the water bottle he is professing to buy and chases him round the counter.
Inspector Craig Jackson, who carried out the initial enquiries, said: “This was a brazen attempt at robbery which was carried out in the daylight with a lot of people around.
“The store worker was incredibly brave in her actions despite being faced with a knife. She is now being supported by officers and her colleagues.
“The man walks around the area for a long time before and sometime afterwards so lots of people will have seen him. There are a number of specific people we would like to speak to, as well as anyone that was in the area at the time. You may have a tiny detail that could help us, or just not seeing anything could also help so please call us on 612612.”
The people we need to speak to are –
• The driver of a black/blue Audi who may have seen the male jump over a wall opposite the Jersey Squash Club on St Clements Inner Road at 5.52pm
• A man and child who entered the shop at 5.35pm and exited at 5.37pm, they may have passed the suspect en route
• The driver of a black Audi convertible who was at the shop 5.35pm to 5.38pm – they may also have passed the suspect en route
• The drivers of both a black Fiat 500 and a grey Honda CRV who parked outside the shop as the suspect left
• A woman wearing a backpack who was walking towards Samares Stores at 5.30pm
The suspect was wearing a dark hooded jacket with grey tracksuit bottoms walking in the area of Samares Stores at approximately 5.20pm and 6pm. We believe the dark jacket may have been removed prior to the incident and the man was wearing a grey Stone Island jacket.
