Last night, just after 23:30, we responded to reports of a man threatening to harm himself with a knife in the area of Convent Court in St Helier. Two firearms officers were deployed to the area and located a 40 year old man who was in possession of a knife, making threats to stab himself.
The man was spoken to by officers but refused to hand over the knife and following a period of negotiation officers discharged a Taser to prevent him from harming both himself and them. The man, who was uninjured and assessed by paramedics, was then detained and remains in police custody. The incident has been voluntarily referred to the Jersey Police Complaints Authority. No officers were injured during this incident and as this remains a live on-going investigation, we are unable to comment further at this time.
