Suspicious Fires

The States of Jersey Police and Jersey’s Fire and Rescue Service are working together to investigate several fires that have occurred recently.

Over the last six months, a spate of suspicious fires have been reported, predominantly in the west of the island, the most recent being in the early hours of Saturday morning on 8th August near Les Landes.

A total of 3 fire engines and a water carrier attended the scene and although the fire was under control and extinguished fairly quickly, the team remained on site throughout the morning dampening down the affected area.

Chief Inspector Chris Beechey commented;

‘Whilst it is acknowledged, especially during the summer months, that some outdoor activities carry an increased fire risk, the concentrated location and similar circumstances of these particular fires are such that we are concerned as to their cause. Any information that the public may have will be gratefully received.”

We would like to ask the public to be aware and look out for any suspicious behaviour or activity and to report it to the police, however insignificant they may feel it is. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police on 612612 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800555111.
