Microsoft scam warning

Officers are warning people to beware of a computer scam believed to have been targeting islanders in the past few days.

Those targeted receive a phone call from someone saying they are from Microsoft Windows Online Support Management Team.

They claim Microsoft has detected a problem and to log in and give remote control of the computer to the company.

When the victim rings 1471 to get the caller’s number they receive the number of a random person in the UK, in the last few days it has been a gentleman in Blackpool who has received numerous calls from islanders.

Police urge people not to carry out any instructions in order to allow remote access to a computer, or give any personal details.
Anyone receiving a call should put the phone down.
