ATM warning for islanders

States of Jersey Police are reminding the public to remain vigilant when using cash machines to prevent details being stolen by criminals.

One such method which continues to be used across the UK is the fixing of devices to ATM machines which firstly capture the data from bank cards when they are inserted and secondly hidden cameras which capture the pin code data entered.

Such devices take some form of skimming equipment fixed over the card slot and a device at the top or the side of the machine to capture the entry of the pin code.

The public are also asked if they have any concerns or suspicions regarding any specific cash machine, to contact the bank involved immediately.

There are no suggestions that these devices have been fitted to machines locally but Jersey is not immune to being targeted as others places have been and continue to be.
