The beat beckons for newest police recruits

Jersey and Guernsey's newest police recruits are soaking up the last few days of training as they prepare to re-join their forces as fully fledged officers.

On Friday 10 February Jersey recruits will be sworn in at Jersey's Royal Court and the following day all recruits will take part in their official passing-out parade.

The pioneering joint-training initiative has been deemed a great success by senior officers, who have seen Island recruits learn to take on the role together for the first time.

The 16 recruits “ 8 from each island “ have spent 16 weeks facing the challenges of the intensive training programme, including town centre patrols, drink drive training and the many other aspects which make up the role of a police constable.

The joint initiative has enabled each training department to make efficiency savings with both training resources and facilities. These savings will be re-invested into supporting front line policing.

Under the initiative, the next round of recruitment will see Guernsey hosting the training programme.
