Preparing for Battle

The annual Battle of Flowers parade takes place on Thursday, with the night parade Friday.

Below is a list of road closures, bus timetable changes and other information you need to know.

LAY-BYS

Tuesday 7th August
Lay-by six closed from 6pm until Saturday 11th August at 9pm
 
Wednesday 8th August
Lay-by four and five closed from 6pm until Saturday 11th August at 6am
Lay-by seven closed from 6pm until Saturday 13th August at 9pm

From Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th August
From 6pm until midnight, the road to the Underground Hospital (La Rue des Pres Sorsoleil) will be one-way up from St. Peters Valley. (Meadow Bank Battle of Flowers Float building)

FLOAT MOVEMENTS
Thursday 9th August

  • 5am St Lawrence floats leaves St Lawrence Community Centre
  • 5am Trinity float leaves from Bouley Bay
  • 5am St Brelade float leaves Mont a la Brune
  • 6am St Martin float leaves St Martin Parish Green
  • 6am St Peter's floats from St. Peter's Community Centre
  • 6am Grouville floats leave the shed at Le Rigondaine
  • 5am Rob Adrian & Friends leave Five Roads Farm St Ouen
  • 6am Florence Bechelet leave La Robeline St Ouen
  • 6am St Clements float leaves RJ & HS Trinity
  • 6am St. Saviour float leaves Parish Depot. Rue des Pres
  • 6am The Henwood Ensemble leaves Entre Deux Trinity

DELAYS ON ROADS
Expect delays from 5am until 9am on roads around the island
From 6am all roads from Trinity to the bottom of Trinity hill junction of Springfield Road, delays from 6.10am on Beaumont Hill, 7.00 am expect delays in St Peters Valley, 6am until 8am from the bottom of Trinity Hill along Rouge Bouillon, Elizabeth Place, Parade and Gloucester Street.
At Bel Royal as floats are on the Avenue St Lawrence traffic may divert onto St Aubin's Inner Road.  This could be from 6.15am until the Avenue closes at 9.30am as floats go to Millbrook Playing Field.
At approximately 6am the Grouville float is going to be on Grouville Hill and then along Longueville with the St Saviour float, at approximately 6am both floats going through the Tunnel and then on the Esplanade, Victoria Avenue.
 
NO PARKING AREAS on the 9th and 10th August
St. Aubin's Inner Road from West Park to Bel Royal from 6am Thursday 9th August until midnight on Friday 10th August
No parking in Gloucester Street from 9pm Wednesday 8th until midnight on Friday 10th August.
There is no parking on Rue De Haut St Lawrence from Le Mont Cambai to La Route De St Aubins from 6pm Wednesday 8th until Friday 10th at Midnight.
Esplanade from 10am until 5pm no parking on 9th from the junction of La Route de la Liberation to Castle Street.
 
ROAD CLOSURES Thursday 9th August
9.15am until 7.30pm La Rue deu Haut to traffic proceeding west from the junction with Le Mont Cambrai and La Rue de la Ville Emphrie to eastbound traffic, St Peters Valley between Bel Royal and the junction with La Rue du Haut, to southbound traffic other than omnibuses and large goods vehicles.
At 9.30am Victoria Avenue closed from Bel Royal to West Park, until 7pm. This is also Paris Lane, Tyneville Lane, The Spur road First Tower, Farley's Lane, Rue du Galet, Peirson road, Esplanade between St. Aubins inner road and Gloucester Street. 
Patriotic Place two way and No Entry on to The Esplanade.
Traffic coming down Mont Felard is Not Be Able to turn right on to St Aubins Road as from 9.30pm until 7pm.

All Traffic coming along Route De La Haule will go though The Bus Lay-by than a long St Aubins Road as from 9.30pm until 7pm.

If you are coming down Mont Felard and you want to go to St Peters/St Brelade divert down La Rue De La Velle Emphrie on to St Peters Valley.

It is extremely important that you take care on the roads around the period of the Battle of Flowers, as there will be many thousands of people around the Esplanade, Parade and along St. Aubin's Inner Road. Please drive carefully and if at all possible please take alternative routes.

  • Disabled Parking is available at First Tower Park

PROMENADE
The promenade and gardens on the seaward side of Victoria Avenue between West Park and Bel Royal are closed from 9am until 7pm on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th from 6pm until midnight.  No cycles will be permitted to use the Cycle Track.

CONNEX SERVICES
Bus services will operate as normal on Battle of Flowers Day excepting between 2pm and 4pm when all services will stop. None of the 2pm departures will operate but all of the 4pm services will leave as normal from Liberation Station.

The Connex Information Office will be open until 8pm as normal on both Battle of Flowers Day and on Friday 10th for the Moonlight Parade. On that evening, all buses after 8pm will leave from their normal stands outside Liberation Station.

Victoria Avenue closed from 6.15pm until 3am Roads closed are Rue du Galet, Paris Lane, Tyneville Lane, the spur road First Tower, Farley's Lane and Peirson Road.
At midnight part of Victoria Avenue will open from Bel Royal to the junction of the spur road First Tower. The rest of the Avenue will remain closed until 3am.

FLOAT MOVEMENTS “ Friday 10th
All the floats will be retuning back to their Parishes after the Moonlight Parade so expect delays from 11.45pm on the following roads Beaumont Hill, St Peters Valley, Mont Felard, La Route Du Fort, Georgetown, Mont Millais St Martin Road, St Aubins Inner Road, Rouge Bouillon and Trinity Hill.
