Police investigate alleged assault in Clearview Street

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 9:40 AM ON MONDAY 7 SEPTEMBER 2009

THE States of Jersey Police are appealing for witnesses following an alleged serious assault in Clearview Street on Saturday night just before 10:30 pm.

It is believed that the alleged male victim (43) walked from the Dorset Tavern up Clearview Street, and while he was in Clearview Street, was assaulted by another man. It is believed that the male victim was kicked in the head and face.

Following the alleged assault, he was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He was kept in overnight for observation.

A 21 year old man was arrested soon after the assault, and has now been charged with grave and criminal assault. He will appear in Court today.

It is known that following the alleged assault, the alleged assailant went towards Queen's Road on foot. He was wearing a striped jumper.

Following the alleged assault, scenes of crime officers from the States of Jersey Police attended the scene.

Although Police have already spoken to witnesses who were in the area, if anyone saw the two men in the street, or before the alleged assault took place, they are asked to call CID on 612200 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
