Alleged serious sexual assault under investigation

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 9:35 AM ON WEDNESDAY 28 OCTOBER 2009

Following a report of an alleged serious sexual assault against an 18 year old woman on Monday afternoon, in St Clement, which was reported to the Police just after 3 pm on Monday, the States of Jersey Police can confirm that a 30 year old man who was in custody regarding this alleged offence was released pending further enquiries on Tuesday evening.

States of Jersey Police are still appealing for members of the public who may have seen a white woman in her teens, and a black man in his thirties, wearing a red top and black tracksuit bottoms walking along St Clement's Coast Road, between the White Horse pub and Green Island between 1:30 pm and 2:45 pm on Monday afternoon are asked to contact CID officers on 612200 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

It is not known what the woman was wearing.

It is known that the man and woman were in the area of Howard Davis Park before making their way towards St Clement's Coast Road on Monday afternoon.

DI Gary Pashley added: ˜Enquiries into this alleged assault remain ongoing. A trained sexual offence liaison officer (SOLO) has been working with the alleged victim, and we would like to reassure members of the public that this is not being treated as a stranger assault.'
