Old bones found at Westmount

RELEASED TO JEP ON TUESDAY 2 JUNE AT 8:50 AM

The States of Jersey Police can confirm that bones, believed to be of human origin, were found in the area of Westmount Road on Tuesday 26 May.

The bones were discovered while building work was being undertaken on a property in the area, and the States of Jersey Police were notified.

Police officers have visited the scene, and initial enquiries have begun. It must be stressed that the bones are not thought to have been put there in suspicious circumstances, and initial findings are that the bones are old, and in a fragile condition.

States of Jersey Police are now completing initial enquiries, and the bones will now be examined by a forensic anthropologist who will be able to establish more details about them, such as whether they have always been at that location, or whether they were imported to the location as part of landfill.

Enquiries are ongoing regarding the history of the area to ascertain this.
