Concern for welfare following sighting of abandoned fishing gear

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 9:30 AM ON WEDNESDAY 3 JUNE

The States of Jersey Police are asking anyone with information about fishing tackle found at Corbiere this morning to get in contact with them.

Just after 5 am this morning, a member of the public called the Police to let them know that a fishing rod and a tackle box had been left facing out to sea, in the area of the rocks on the slope just below the radio tower at Corbiere, approximately 40 feet up from the sea.

It may be that the fishing tackle has just been left at the location, but the States of Jersey Police are anxious to trace the owner. It is not known how long the tackle may have been there.

If anyone recognises this as their own, or can help Police identify when it may have been left there, they are asked to come forward. Two beer cans were found in the tackle box, which was otherwise empty.

The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service and the Jersey Coast Guard have already conducted a sea search, while States of Jersey Police officers are undertaking a land search. It is stressed that no one has been reported missing in that area.

If you are the owner of the fishing tackle, or are worried about the whereabouts of anyone who fishes in that area, please call the States of Jersey Police on 612612.
