Update on suspicious package left in St Aubin

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 16:30 PM ON WEDNESDAY 16 DECEMBER 2009

UPDATE ON ENQUIRY INTO SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE “ ST AUBIN

We can confirm that the investigation into a suspicious package left in St Aubin on Sunday is continuing, and is progressing well.
A 20 year old man has been arrested in connection with this enquiry, and has now been released pending further enquiries.
DI Chris Beechey, head of CID at the States of Jersey Police said: ˜Enquiries already made have suggested that there may be a less sinister explanation for this package than previously thought, and Police would invite anyone with information about it to come forward and clarify the circumstances.
˜In particular, we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the activities of a large group of young people on the Saturday night that arrived in the St Aubin area at about 8pm who left the area an hour or so later.'
At this time, the package, which caused considerable disruption to many members of the public and residents of St Aubin, is still being treated as a serious matter.
Anyone with information is asked to call CID at Police HQ on 612220 or give information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
