Media briefing notes from Haut de la Garenne

EMAIL UPDATE FOR WEEKEND OF SAT 8 MARCH AND SUN 9 MARCH FROM HAUT DE LA GARENE

Email update for weekend - PRESS OFFICE CLOSED ON SUNDAY as there is no work going on at the site and therefore no update to give.

THERE IS NO PLANNED MEDIA BRIEFING TODAY (SUNDAY 9 MARCH) AS THE SITE IS CLOSING DOWN FOR A DAY TO GIVE WORKERS A REST.

Work starts on the second cellar early next week but please bear in mind I do not have a definite day for this, and will not know one till next week.

One thing we would like to emphasise is that although we are very busy at Haut de la Garenne, the dedicated historical abuse inquiry team based at Police headquarters in St Helier continue to interview victims and carry on their hard work. There is now a squad of at least 25 people doing that, and more people (I believe 8) arrive on Monday 10 March to help as we have had such a good response from people coming forward.

We are still appealing for witnesses and victims to come forward. As we have said before, the media coverage we have had has been a huge boon in getting people to come forward and we continue to be very appreciative.

If anyone needs the help line numbers for our dedicated incident room or the UK based NSPCC help line, please see the home page of: www.jersey.police.uk

I will let you know if we have anything planned for Monday 10 March.

I am having a rest day today but if anything should happen I will contact you.
