Body found in French waters

RELEASED TO MEDIA AT 1100 HOURS ON SATURDAY 6TH DEC 2008

The body of a man has been found in French waters during late afternoon of Friday 5th December 2008. The States of Jersey Police were informed of the find at approximately 18:30 hours on Friday 5th via coastguard services.

Jersey Police have since been in contact with the Gendarmerie of Barneville and Carteret area, which is the nearest point of land for this find. Initial reports are that the body is thought to have been in the sea for approximately three days.

No formal identification has yet been made and the timescale of any such detail being released or ascertained is very much in the hands of the French authorities.

The find follows concerns regarding a jet ski, found damaged on the 1st December 2008 by Jersey coast guards. Jersey Police are unable to confirm that the man is linked with the damaged jet ski pending that formal identification process.

Jersey Police would like to renew their appeal for potential witnesses in respect of the jet ski and specifically how it came to be abandoned in Bouley Bay. Was the jet ski found unattended perhaps and towed into the bay?

Additionally, the Jersey Police would like to hear from anyone who may know the whereabouts of a silver and blue Nissan Navara pick up bearing the registration number of NT02 CWU. This vehicle may well have a trailer attached and may be linked to the jet ski.
