Historical abuse enquiry update

RELEASED TO MEDIA ON FRIDAY 30 NOVEMBER AT 8.15 am

Regarding the historic abuse investigation launched last week by the States of Jersey Police, we have become aware that some callers are querying whether the investigation team are only interested in abuse which is alleged to have happened at the two Island institutions we have named; the former Haut de la Garenne Children's Home and the Jersey Sea Cadets.

The senior investigating officer, Lenny Harper, and the team working on the inquiry, would stress that they are interested in any information people might have about any abuse which occurred in institutions in Jersey.

If anyone has any information about historic abuse, whether they are a victim or a witness, we would urge them to call either the UK based dedicated NSPCC number or the locally based historical abuse investigation team.

The numbers are:

Freefone NSPCC number for local and UK callers:
0800 169 1173
Callers from outside the UK should ring:
+44 (0)20 7825 7489
The Historical Abuse Enquiry Team can be contacted on:

The phone numbers are available on both www.jersey.police.uk and www.gov.je/homeaffairs/police
