CCTV image released in order to locate man

POLICE are seeking a man who assaulted a couple at the Weighbridge in early February. Police have obtained a CCTV image of the man (attached) and would like to be able to identify him. A press appeal was released in February following the assault.

The attacker was described as a white male, in his early twenties, with short dark coloured hair wearing a blue/grey striped jumper and jeans. The female attacker was described as a white female also aged in her twenties with long fair hair and was wearing a white cardigan. Police appealed for witnesses to come forward as the incident appeared to be completely unprovoked.

The man is thought to be responsible for an assault on a couple on 4 February which took place at the taxi shelter, between 2 am and 2.20 am.

The woman and her husband were in Platinum nightclub near the entrance by the railings when they were approached by some people they did not know who they say started pushing and shoving them. Both the woman and her husband and the assailants left Platinum.

While at the taxi rank the husband was approached by one of the male aggressors and challenged to a fight. He declined and turned away, and was allegedly punched in the back of the head. The woman tried to calm the situation at which point, another woman banged her head against the taxi shelter.

The victims sought help from Police nearby but the suspects had left the area, although attempts were made to locate them when the incident had been reported. The male victim had no obvious injury. However, the woman did have a large bump on her forehead. The couple were taken to the Hospital for a check up.
Anyone who recognises the man in the photograph is asked to call Pc Stuart Meikle on 612612 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
