Witness appeal after alleged knife-threat attack

Witnesses are being asked to come forward following an attack on a 29 year old man late on Wednesday night during which he was threatened with a knife.

Between 23:00 and 00:00 hours on Wednesday 11th July 2007, the man was attacked in his own car (a red Mitsubishi Gallant) in Roussel Street by an unknown man brandishing a knife.

The man (who there is no description of as he had his face covered up) then forced the victim to allegedly drive to Les Platons where he was then attacked by the both the same man and three others who joined him at the location. There is no description of the men as once again, they had their faces covered.

˜The assault at Les Platons consisted of punches and kicks to the man's head and body and as a result, the victim received a suspected broken cheek bone, and bruises and swelling to his face and ribs for which he is still receiving hospital treatment,' said Det Insp Chris Beechey.

˜Both the victim and his attackers are described as dark European men. Unfortunately, because they obscured their faces, we do not have descriptions of them.

˜We are now urging witnesses to come forward with any with regards to both incidents and the journey between. Anyone who saw this vehicle in Roussel Street or on the onward journey is asked to call us.

˜We believe the car was driven to Les Platons via New St John's Road and Queen's Road. Anyone who saw any other suspicious activity or unusual behaviour or indeed the incident at Les Platons, who was in the immediate vicinity at or around this time is asked to come forward,' added Det Insp Beechey.

While the attackers are not known to this man this is not being investigated as a random stranger attack as there is other information available to the Police at this time suggesting otherwise.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward to the Reactive Investigation Team at Police Headquarters on 612200 or information can be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
