Police seek man after alleged knife threat

RELEASED TO MEDIA ON FRIDAY 13 JULY

At approximately 8:30 pm yesterday evening a man entered the William Hill betting shop in Poonah Road St Helier and held a knife to the throat of one of the customers. The cashier and customer immediately screamed and without saying a word the man ran back out of the shop and away from the area.

The customer a 18 year old young man and the cashier a 27 year old woman were left extremely shaken by the incident, have been spoken to by police and offered the appropriate support.

The man is described as follows:

Approximately 5'10 tall, of athletic build. He was wearing a long sleeved dark coloured bomber style jacket, blue jeans and a balaclava. He did not speak at any time.

A local resident in the area saw two men running in the direction of Aquila Road around the time of the incident and may therefore be linked.

Witnesses are requested at or around this time in the area who may have seen either the above described man or any other suspicious activity involving one or two men. In particular the police would like to speak to a dark European man who entered the betting shop at about 8:15 pm collecting a football coupon.

Please contact either SOJP Reactive Investigation Team or alternatively Crimestoppers.
