Our custody staff ensure the lawful, safe and secure detention of prisoners.
In particular, they provide an independent check that an arrested person’s rights have been observed and that they are fit to be detained.
While ensuring the welfare of their prisoners, custody staff also help arresting officers with a variety of tasks, including taking fingerprints, photographs and DNA samples and checking records to see if prisoners are wanted for other offences.
