Acting Chief Officer

Rob Bastable is the Acting Chief Officer of the States of Jersey Police.

Rob was appointed in July 2017, having previously been Deputy Chief Officer from March 2016 and before that Superintendent, Head of Uniformed Operations.

Prior to taking up an appointment with the States of Jersey Police in 2014, Rob served for 30 years with the City of London Police. 

He has an extensive operational and command background, ranging from firearms and road policing to management of major and critical incidents.

He has command experience in numerous high profile policing operations, including 7/7, The Lord Mayor’s Show, various ceremonial events and many state occasions.

He was a Chief Superintendent in London for 10 years where he led the operational side of the City of London Police, being responsible for all day-to-day policing operations, ranging from crime reduction to counter-terrorism.

A unique area of responsibility was for the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey. Rob undertook Gold command for many national high-profile and media intensive trials, several of which required witness and armed-protection.

Additionally, he was a Programme Director for the City of London Police Change Programme where his role was to implement the new policing model for the Force.

Since 2007 Rob has been a mentor with the National Mentoring Consortium and was the keynote speaker at the launch of the Metropolitan Police Muslim Mentoring Scheme.

Rob is a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Programme, Washington, USA.

Rob is married to Frances, a community nurse. They have two sons, both living in London.
