As part of its continued focus on perception of rape the States of Jersey Police are on a mission to bust the myths surrounding the subject.
The Force is challenging common myths around the topic of rape and sexual violence and replacing it with what the real picture is.
The initiative is part of the Force’s long term rape campaign entitled “Ask. Listen. Respect” which aims to educate the public, as well as encouraging victims to come forward.
Video statements have been produced tol give islanders details of myths and the truth.
Chief Inspector Alison Fossey, who is leading the campaign, said: “Over the past year we have done a lot of work in the community and in schools around the subject of consent as almost every indecent assault or rape we deal with consent is the crux of the matter.
"Our message has been clear, sex without consent is rape. But despite all this work there are still some age-old taboos still in people’s minds and throughout the course of the year we will be continuing the work to challenge them and get people talking about a subject which, in the past, has been difficult."
“This can only serve to help the victims who find themselves in a situation where they do not know where to turn or what to do. By discussing it as a community we can help those people to know that this is not their fault.”
Our Force Control Rooms take thousands of calls every year, and are often asked very similar questions. In this section you will find some of those that are frequently asked
